Summer is Stock Up Time!

Good Morning Everyone,

I am sitting here shaking my head...it is pretty ridiculous when you have to be very meticulous as to where and how you spend your money these days. Have you notices the prices at the grocery store? How about the gas prices? It's not getting any better it is just going to keep getting worse.

How many of you have lost your job? Had your hours or paycheck cut? What about medical issues that have come up? Are you afraid to go to the Dr. because you don't know how you are going to pay that bill with everything else?  We are just like the rest of you...I have some medical issues that really need to be looked at but with the way Obama Care is set up we are paying more than ever to use it. Plus my husband had to take a $3.00 an hour pay cut to keep working. I could tell you (like the government) that it is going to get better...but I am not going to sugar coat it. My last blog I said, "some people just don't see the writing on the wall" and they don't!! Here is what I purpose...let's get ready to protect our families.

Since things in this country and around the world are getting crazier let's pull our heads out of the sand and look for the writing on the wall. Start making some lists of things that you have around the house and how long you think they are going last.

Here are some ideas to start with:
Medications - 30 to 90 days (who needs them and what are they)
T.P. 10 rolls - 20 days
Food - (this will vary, if you have to write out a meal plan)
Hair Care - 30 days
Soap - 15 - 30 days
Deodorant - 20- 30 days
Pads/Tampons - 1 - 3 months
Q-tips - 2-3 months
etc.

These may sound dumb but I guarantee these are some of the items that get over looked when money gets tight. When making the food list write it all out.  What does your family eat? You may even want to start thinking of meals to make at home, that don't take a lot of time or a lot of preparation to make.  If you start eating different now, if/when money gets tight, at least you will be able to feed your family without complaints. We are coming into the summer season.  This is a great time to stock up on foods your family likes. Remember canned foods and some dried prepackaged foods will became your best friend.  Sales are coming out all the time.  Stock up!!

This is also the time to watch for winter sales on emergency supplies.  First aide, sleeping bags (in case the power goes out), Flash lights, Radio's (Crank ones are the best to have, you won't have to worry about battery life), sweat shirts/tee- shirts (these are great for layering in bad weather), rain gear, hand and feet warmers, gloves, hats, even dome tents big enough for your family, back packs (to make "To go/Bug out packs") jackets, snow pants/suites, etc.  I have lots on winter ideas on old posts from a winter storm we had 2 years ago, but I will be talking more about these things in days and weeks to come.

Here is a starting point, if nothing else a few things to think on.

Until next time...
