Printable Pages

Happy Memorial Weekend!

First - I want to apologize for not getting my supply list out sooner.  I have been having some technical difficulties, but I think we are fixed and back on track.

Second - I want to send out a HUGE THANK YOU to all of our Veterans and their families. I have many friends and family that are currently serving or have served. There has been too many families that have lost loved ones for standing up for what they believe. Those that are serving now, be safe and keep you heads down.  Those that are home we Thank you for your service and sacrifice. God Bless all of you and your families

Now down to other business...As you have all been waiting for my supply list, it is now to the left  of the blog under the tab "Printable Pages". I have also added other items that I use in my classes to help people get started or to just give them more to think about when prepping.  Please watch this tab, I will be adding more pages to it.

Also with this being Memorial Weekend...this is a great time to check out Gun Shows, RV shows, small Fairs, etc. to start stocking up on supplies for Great Prices. Check your local area and take advantage of the deals.

Enjoy your family BBQ's and celebrations! Please say a prayer for all of our Veterans past and present!!

Until Next Time....

What to Pack in your Pack?

Good Monday Morning!

First I want to apologize for not posting sooner...my weekend got away from me. Also I have signed up to have some advertising on this blog, but they pop up in weird places, so there will be some changes over the next few weeks.

All that said let's get to it...Knowing what to pack in your To Go Pack.
In the classes I teach, one of the sheets that is included in their packet is a 72 Hour Kit Supply List.
The list is broken down in to 13 different groups:
Dental Care Container (Plastic container with lid)
Personal Hygiene Container (Plastic container with lid)
In a Gallon sized Bag
Must Have For Kits
Lighting and Radios
Fire Starter and Cutting Tools
Cooking Equipment
Documentation Kit
Food
Clothing
Shoes
First Aid Kit
Other
Under all of these I have a break down of what MAY be needed in your kit. My husband and I have compared our kit set up with Red Cross and other groups that put kits together, and we have everything they have plus a few other things.  As I tell my classes, "these are what we carry, your pack needs to be your own." We are giving you suggestions of things to have.

If you hunt, camp, hike, or go on fishing trips you may already have a kit built that you can use. Go through the list above and make your own break down of what you would add to your kit. Tomorrow I will post what I suggest to my classes and we will see where you come out. One last thing...Find a place in the house or garage that you can have your kits/packs ready to go. This way if they are needed you can grab and go, that is why many people call them Grab and Go Bags!

Hope you all have sun where you are... I am off to work in the veggie garden!

Until Next Time....

Starting Your To Go Pack/ 72 hour Kit.

Good After Noon!

I have been spending some time looking through adds for great sales, and am amazed at the sales I have seen.  On my post dated 1/24/12 I listed the best places to get items and what items to get (please refer to this post).  Here is another quick run down of the stores:
Big Lots,
Target,
Big 5,
Kmart,
Walmart,
REI, etc.
One thing to remember when you are buying supplies, the most expensive is not always the best, the cheapest....well you may get what you pay for. :-/

With Summer sales I would encourage you all to stock up on things you would normally use at a picnic or BBQ.  Like paper plates, plastic ware, cups (that you can either burn or rinse and reuse), napkins, etc.
These things will come in handy if the power goes out, water is limited, or if an emergency comes up in your area and you need to evacuate, or you are trying to feed extra people who are being evacuated.  Look at what is happening in California right now. Thousands of people are being evacuated due to the fires in their area. With the extra supplies you have on hand you could help friends and family at your home. Do the same with food, beans for example. Beans are great for so many meals, they are inexpensive, and canned correctly they last years after their pull off the shelf date.

Don't for get to start looking for back packs to make your To Go Pack or 72 hour kit in.  I suggest a two shoulder strap pack (preferably with cushioned straps and a mid back cushion).  Ours packs have hip straps also but it is not necessary unless you plan to packing out of your area (which may have to happen at some point).  Some people like duffle bags, these are fine but realize you will be putting extra weight on one side of your body at a time.  If you had to pack out on foot this is going to make you tired more quickly and you will feel a lot more physical strain on your body. When choosing a pack...please do not get one that is bigger than you. In this case "Bigger is NOT Better." You can wind up adding more to your pack than your body can handle. I guarantee you do not want to look like a cartoon character who over packs and falls down a hill or even out the front door because your pack is too heavy.

I will have more tips for you tomorrow.

Until Next Time...

Summer is Stock Up Time!

Good Morning Everyone,

I am sitting here shaking my head...it is pretty ridiculous when you have to be very meticulous as to where and how you spend your money these days. Have you notices the prices at the grocery store? How about the gas prices? It's not getting any better it is just going to keep getting worse.

How many of you have lost your job? Had your hours or paycheck cut? What about medical issues that have come up? Are you afraid to go to the Dr. because you don't know how you are going to pay that bill with everything else?  We are just like the rest of you...I have some medical issues that really need to be looked at but with the way Obama Care is set up we are paying more than ever to use it. Plus my husband had to take a $3.00 an hour pay cut to keep working. I could tell you (like the government) that it is going to get better...but I am not going to sugar coat it. My last blog I said, "some people just don't see the writing on the wall" and they don't!! Here is what I purpose...let's get ready to protect our families.

Since things in this country and around the world are getting crazier let's pull our heads out of the sand and look for the writing on the wall. Start making some lists of things that you have around the house and how long you think they are going last.

Here are some ideas to start with:
Medications - 30 to 90 days (who needs them and what are they)
T.P. 10 rolls - 20 days
Food - (this will vary, if you have to write out a meal plan)
Hair Care - 30 days
Soap - 15 - 30 days
Deodorant - 20- 30 days
Pads/Tampons - 1 - 3 months
Q-tips - 2-3 months
etc.

These may sound dumb but I guarantee these are some of the items that get over looked when money gets tight. When making the food list write it all out.  What does your family eat? You may even want to start thinking of meals to make at home, that don't take a lot of time or a lot of preparation to make.  If you start eating different now, if/when money gets tight, at least you will be able to feed your family without complaints. We are coming into the summer season.  This is a great time to stock up on foods your family likes. Remember canned foods and some dried prepackaged foods will became your best friend.  Sales are coming out all the time.  Stock up!!

This is also the time to watch for winter sales on emergency supplies.  First aide, sleeping bags (in case the power goes out), Flash lights, Radio's (Crank ones are the best to have, you won't have to worry about battery life), sweat shirts/tee- shirts (these are great for layering in bad weather), rain gear, hand and feet warmers, gloves, hats, even dome tents big enough for your family, back packs (to make "To go/Bug out packs") jackets, snow pants/suites, etc.  I have lots on winter ideas on old posts from a winter storm we had 2 years ago, but I will be talking more about these things in days and weeks to come.

Here is a starting point, if nothing else a few things to think on.

Until next time...

Restarting My Blog

Happy Cinco De Mayo 2014

Good Grief....I can not believe it has been two years since I have posted on my blog. Sorry everyone life just got a little busy for awhile. Soooo, now that I am ready to get back in the swing of things, let's get down to it.

We are going to start with all the craziness going on in the world right now. If ever there was a time to be prepare for anything it is now. As I have said before, "Emergencies are not just natural disasters, they are also sick family member, lost jobs, lost hours, being relocated, etc."  My family and I have been on the lost job and relocated part of this in the last few months. It can be a challenge going from a crazy busy life, to up rooting from all your friends, family, and familiar things, to a place where you only have two friends, no family, and you don't know where anything is. Uggh.  It took me almost a month and a half to get out of my funk, and realize I have actual work to do.  So here I am and we are going to get Real on this Blog.

In the last few weeks my husband and I have been getting to know some of the people in our community. We have been talking to them about doing some of our Emergency Prep.classes here in our new area, and everyone seems to be on board. The great thing is they started doing an Emergency Prep Fair last year and will be having another here in June (When I have more details I will share them with you). I have also been asked to teach a class to our county if we get enough interest, I jumped at that.  We live in a small town now so trying to get the community together and prepared who would say NO that?

Now that you have a little update on where we are let's get back to the world issues...we don't have the best internet or actual TV where we live, so knowing what is happening in the world can be a challenge. As most of you know in different parts of the world, war could break out any minute, many people here are starting to get ready for anything, but yet there are people that just don't see the writing on the wall. This is the time to have something in place for your family.

To my LDS friends please do not take this next part wrong I am trying to make a point. For almost twenty years my husband and I were LDS (Mormon), we left the church about 4 years ago and joined a different church. As a member of the LDS church you are asked to be self reliant, you should have food storage for your family for at least a year. (Yes, this is where my husband and I started on our way to teaching the classes and starting this blog). The LDS church as a whole have helped people all over the world with food, clothes, quilts and so many other things over the years but they still get a bad rap; but if you look at the church on an individual level, only a small portion of them are ready for anything, themselves. My point of this is we all need to look at what is going on in the world...what if it came here? What if we had more weather issues, lost a job, had sick family members, etc.? What are YOU prepared for?

If you review some of my old posts I have given you some ideas to get you started.

Until next time...
